Polish Summers with fresh fava beans... very much missed when living abroad. The season is very short, it's happening now and we can't get enough of them. In any form...

With the first hot days of the year, my childhood memories together with my appetite go back to this...

We are really not a potato family but then we are a potato family. That is, if I cooked potatoes every day or, let's say, every other day, I would always have willing takers.

Hania likes potatoes and beans, Julian likes onions, potatoes and beans...I like this, this and that and the fact that it is headache-and-mess free. Roasted vegetable medley is my family's regular favorite.

To slowly get back in the rhythm of things after the Holidays ...and to fill my home with sweet childhood memories, I made bigos (a Polish national dish).

I made this for my parents when they came for a visit. But since they are still suspicious about my cooking...or maybe they were just not hungry, I was happy to eat the leftovers.

I wish all beans tasted like these. Why do dry ones taste heavy and difficult? We only get a chance to eat fresh fava beans a couple of weeks a year, which is now. I have a feeling they are very healthy. All major macro- and micronutrients in one little, I mean, big bean.

What a nice surprise. I didn't know what to except...till the first bite. No, not a bite. You don't bite mousse.

It's the third time I've used my new potato press and I'm liking it more every time. No mashing will do. Potatoes from the press come out light and airy. The fluffy puree will incorporate perfectly just about any vegetable or cheese to make a full, delightful meal. We are getting to be very fond of gnocchi.

After a busy Easter, it feels good to eat at home alone again. Not that my mom's duck or snails with pesto at the best restaurant in town (courtesy of my brother in law) were bad. Not that my little nephew can't sit still (typical 4 year old) and always wants something that he shouldn't have and my sister looks for ways to the right thing. All fine, as long as I know the next day, I could do my own thing, in peace.

I like making gnocchi. Is it really relaxing? I think it is. You can't rush anything, you stand in your kitchen for about an hour...making...gnocchio after gnocchio.

When I don't know what to make, don't have time, had enough chocolate, tomato sauces, pizza and pasta...I go back to this recipe. And I don't feel bad making, eating and serving the same thing several times in a row (freshly made for lunch, reheated for dinner) to me or anybody around. Especially when it seems everybody else is getting sick...and we are not (knock knock knock). This is a great between-seasons dish. Without getting to deep into the benefits of Kitchari, this meal is just delicious and easy to make. And it tastes like nothing else I ever make.
