Couscous with fresh fava beans

I wish all beans tasted like these. Why do dry ones taste heavy and difficult? We only get a chance to eat fresh fava beans a couple of weeks a year, which is now. I have a feeling they are very healthy. All major macro- and micronutrients in one little, I mean, big bean.

I just quickly searched for some close translation of the name. It could be "molten rock or lava rock".
Not bad.

Almond super-easy-and-fast cookies

And super good, I should add. Did I mention "Italian"? I came across the recipe while looking for an idea for a cookie for breakfast for me. I had one in mind, but it required going out and getting flour. Afternoon came, and I still didn't have any flour. A very warm afternoon. I couldn't get myself into serious baking mood. But I was still very serious about my breakfast the next day. I had to find something.

Pizza with scallions

Pizza has become a regular in our house. Especially when Summer comes, it tastes fantastic on the balcony with a cold drink and good company. It never gets old.

Duchess's cold cake

A week went by. One semifreddo dessert didn't set, the other one never intended to. I fed to the birds my strawberry muffins. My migraine came and went shaking up my diet like always. And then Summer came and shook it up even more. Cappuccino for breakfast and pizza on the balcony for dinner. With an ice cream cake in between.

Cauliflower and carrots hot-day salad

Hot days are here. Windows are all open, not prolonged cooking or baking allowed. I don't know what to eat. Maybe nothing...or maybe something. Maybe a salad. No, not the raw, green, leafy type. I eat a raw, green, leafy salad only if prepared by somebody else. My girlfriends are the experts. Too much work and not enough...food.

Barley soup (krupnik?)

I'm still not convinced that I like soups. But I end up making one about once a week. Just for a variety.

Tarallucci w/whole spelt

Anytime I'm sad, making cookies puts me back on my feet. Like yesterday. I was already thinking about spending the rest of the day on the sofa, wrapped up in my blanket...sad that there was no cake or cookies around. Sad, that I had too much cake the day before. Sad, that I told myself I shouldn't be eating any sugar the next day. Sad about a pile of laundry, sad about frizzy hair....

Pizza with asparagus

I wanted a pizza, I wanted my female friends, I wanted champagne. Saturday night. "Sex and the City", the movie, was coming on TV. Time to celebrate friendship, girl- power, food and drinks!

Marble ring cake w/whole spelt

This is very much a seasonal cake. It goes with every season. Strawberries have shown up everywhere, but they are too good and expensive to bake with for now. But when I eat half a pound...OK, a pound of strawberries, then I feel like something else. Something cake-ish with a slightly sweet taste and a touch of chocolate flavor. Like this cake.

Baked asparagus mousse

What a nice surprise. I didn't know what to except...till the first bite. No, not a bite. You don't bite mousse.

Rhubarb preserves

I just had some for breakfast. I just had a lot. I'm a big fan of my preserves. I can eat half a jar at one sitting. They are never too sweet. Always light and fresh.

Red radish and green onion ricotta spread

One of those days (Monday, it was) that from the moment I put my feet down on the floor, I was very doubtful anything would go my way.

Focaccia with baby beets

Very Polish and very Italian. Two traditions met in my kitchen. The lightly sweet and earthy taste of Polish Spring beets on a simple piece of light and fantastic Italian dough. I could eat this everyday.
